Consultation is a key duty within legislation but it is also a powerful tool for improving all aspects of your business.

Ways to formally consult:

• Have regular meetings with all staff, even a brief toolbox meeting;

• Establish a Health and Safety Committee;

• Meet with Health & Safety Representatives (HSRs) to discuss and represent safety concerns to management;

• Establish working groups to address specific issues.

Of course, never underestimate the value of simply chatting with employees and asking them for their concerns and ideas around safety.
